Götzendorf an der Leitha, Lower Austria – Anyone who needs to be fully focused at the tee or on the green relies on one thing in particular: good lighting. The Golfclub Frühling therefore decided to comprehensively modernize its lighting system, opting for SmartArena’s COB LED technology. Four holes, the driving range, and the putting green were equipped with a new lighting solution. Intelligent control systems and precise light distribution ensure pleasant lighting conditions on the playing areas and energy-efficient operation tailored to actual needs. In addition, the parking lot lighting was also upgraded with LED fixtures from Ecoworld LCL.
The various areas of a golf course place specific demands on lighting. While uniform and pleasant illumination is crucial on the playing surfaces, it is also important to minimize unwanted stray light into the surrounding area as much as possible. At the Golfclub Frühling, modern COB LED technology from SmartArena with a color temperature of 3,000 K is used for this purpose.
COB LED technology enables uniform light distribution and precise light control. When combined with SmartArena’s Direct-Light-Control (DLC) shading system, the light is directed specifically toward the areas where it is needed. This minimizes unwanted light emissions into the surrounding area.
Smart control for demand-based operation
In addition to light quality, another key focus of the project was on a flexible yet easy-to-use control system for the lighting installation. The system utilizes DALI wireless controls, as well as various basicDIM Wireless solutions from Tridonic. This allows the different illuminated areas to be controlled precisely and operated according to their specific use.
The intelligent lighting control system simplifies the daily operation of the system and ensures that lighting is used only where it is actually needed and at the appropriate intensity. Together with energy-efficient LED technology, this contributes to significant electricity savings and, consequently, to a sustainable reduction in ongoing operating costs.
LED technology for the parking area as well
As part of the project, it wasn’t just the lighting at the golf course itself that was modernized. The parking area also received new LED lighting featuring fixtures from Ecoworld LCL. This expanded the lighting concept beyond the playing areas and converted this area as well to modern, energy-efficient LED technology.
Both the SmartArena LED floodlight solutions and the Ecoworld LCL luminaires used in the project are manufactured in Styria. The project thus combines modern lighting and control technology with regional manufacturing in Austria.
The result is a lighting solution that combines pleasant lighting conditions for golfers, precise light control, and significantly simplified operation. At the same time, the energy-efficient COB LED technology and demand-based control ensure significantly reduced energy consumption and lower ongoing operating costs.

SmartArena is a brand of Preworks GmbH, under which LED floodlight systems for sports facilities and arenas have been manufactured in Teufenbach since 2022. Through its subsidiary Ecoworld LCL GmbH, Preworks has been expanding its portfolio to include high-quality LED street and industrial lighting solutions since 2023.
