Burgenland, Oberpullendorf – SC Oberpullendorf chose a high-performance, future-oriented lighting solution from SmartArena to upgrade the floodlight system at its training field. In collaboration with BE Solution GmbH and Montron GmbH, the existing floodlight system was retrofitted with modern COB LED technology on the existing poles. The result is optimal lighting conditions for training, high energy efficiency, and precise light control to protect nearby residents.
The new SmartArena LED floodlight system achieves an illuminance of 200 lux with a color temperature of 3,000 Kelvin, thereby meeting the requirements of lighting class III. Thanks to the COB LED technology used, the system provides exceptionally uniform illumination of the playing field, high light quality, and completely flicker-free light. As a result, players benefit from optimal visibility. In addition, energy consumption and ongoing operating costs are sustainably reduced.
In addition, the existing infrastructure could be used and the new SmartArena LED luminaires were installed on the existing floodlight poles. This significantly reduced both the construction effort and the amount of materials required.
Tridonic’s wireless DALI control system ensures flexible, needs-based control. Depending on the training mode, different illuminance levels can be conveniently selected and precisely adjusted to meet specific requirements. This not only enhances ease of use but also contributes to the facility’s energy-efficient operation.
Protecting the surrounding residential areas also played a key role in the modernization. For this reason, the floodlight system was equipped with SmartArena’s DLC (Direct-Light-Control) shading system. This directs the light specifically onto the playing field and minimizes stray light and light pollution outside the sports field.
A particular challenge arose during the installation work: One of the existing floodlight poles is also used by a mobile network provider. The radio equipment therefore had to be temporarily taken out of service for the work. Kevin Beck of Montron GmbH summarizes:
“Since one of the masts is also used as a transmission mast by a mobile network operator, we had to carry out the work in accordance with the C413 guideline for activities near radio equipment. This required a temporary shutdown of the transmitter. Coordination proved to be challenging because the mobile network provider required a two-week lead time – since no alternative pole was available near the border – and local residents had to be informed in advance about the reduced signal coverage. Thanks to the excellent cooperation of all project participants, the work was nevertheless completed on schedule and safely.”
With the new floodlight system, SC Oberpullendorf now has a sustainable and cost-effective lighting solution that combines modern COB LED technology, intelligent lighting control, and precise light distribution, thereby creating optimal conditions for training.
