Exciting rallies and duels thrilled beach volleyball fans in the sold-out Red Bull Beach Arena at Vienna’s Heumarkt. The strongest women’s and men’s beach volleyball duos fought for a place in the weekend finals. Host country Austria was represented by a total of eight teams. Gold went to Norway and Switzerland. Floodlights from SmartArena were used for the night sessions on the centre court.
Gerhard Gutscher, Vienna Sound Vienna Light, explains: “Smart Arena Solo with 10-degree lenses and DMX control were used for the Beach Volleyball European Championships 2021 at the Vienna Eislaufverein. The lighting area was 19 m x 28 m, the spotlight height 14.3 m. The set-up time, including cabling, took around six hours, with one lighting technician and four stagehands at work.”
Gutscher elaborates, “We purchased the floodlights two years ago specifically for beach volleyball tournaments with TV-ready lighting. The lamps were used for the first time in 2019 for the World Cup in Hamburg. The SmartArena floodlights performed much better, TV-wise, than other types the year before and were much cheaper to hire. We are convinced by the product for this purpose. The ORF as well as the German TV stations were thrilled with the quality of the light.”
